Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 different tongues.
