Ghislaine Maxwell Allegedly Seeking Sentence Commutation, Insider Claims to House Democrats

According to recent claims from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a two-decade sentence for sex-trafficking crimes, is reportedly preparing a commutation application for consideration by the presidential administration.

Special Treatment Alleged at Federal Prison

Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee revealed that a whistleblower provided evidence indicating Maxwell is working on the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in Texas.

Representative Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the House judiciary committee, declared in a official statement that the prison’s warden was “helping” Maxwell with document preparation and submission to aid her effort for executive mercy.

The exact content of the “commutation application” remain unknown, Raskin added.

Alleged Privileges and Custom Arrangements

Raskin states that, per the insider, Maxwell has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the supervisor has individually organized exclusive visits for Maxwell and her visitors.

These meetings reportedly involve a “special cordoned-off area” for visitors and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.

Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to carry electronic devices, which the congressman characterized as an exceptional measure given the potential danger and potential for unsupervised contact.

Reportedly on one occasion, when phone lines went down for other prisoners, she was provided directions about instructing her contacts to call and how personnel would relay the call to her.

Supervisor Acting as Assistant

The whistleblower further reportedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to review and edit documents promptly, she “essentially used” the warden as her private aide.

The statement states that those writing to her would send files directly to the warden, who would hand them over to the inmate, who would review and edit them and provide them back to the official to digitize and send to the initial correspondent.

Additional Privileges Reported

Further perks allegedly granted to her include time to “play with” a service dog puppy – a perk not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the prison exercise area.

Her legal counsel did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

Through a spokesperson, the White House said that it “does not comment” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, granting clemency to the convict is not something he has thought about,” the representative noted.

Recent Background

Recently, reports surfaced that she told close associates in electronic messages that she was “much happier” at the Texas facility than her previous prison.

This past summer, she was transferred from a secure facility in Tallahassee, Florida to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most detainees are incarcerated for financial and non-violent crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as the President's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the ongoing probe and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and adjudicated criminal, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while awaiting prosecution on trafficking accusations.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, the congressman also announced that he had sent a letter to the President, requesting explanations about the whistleblower’s allegations, and called on the chief executive to reject the clemency appeal.

“You should not grant any form of clemency to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” the representative stated in the document. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with federal law enforcement officials attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche attend a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether he had discussed a potential commutation for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to arrange Maxwell with the transfer or special conditions in detention, and whether she, her attorneys, family or agents have made any promises to the President or his attorneys.

The representative requested for a response to the questions by the specified date.
