Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet defended 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
