Teacher Killed and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Armed Clash at Nigerian School

Gun-wielding individuals have taken the life of an instructor and abducted at least 25 students in an raid targeting a girls' secondary school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, police reports indicate.

The armed faction breached the public educational institution for female students in Kebbi State's Maga area at roughly 4 in the morning local time on the start of the week, authorities reported.

The armed individuals "engaged police personnel on duty in a shootout" before scaling the perimeter fence and abducting the learners from their dormitory, an official report indicated.

One member of staff was killed while trying to protect the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now receiving treatment.

Observers recounted a sizeable number of assailants, referred to locally as criminal elements, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to generate terror.

Area inhabitants told reporters that the armed men then led a group of female students into surrounding rural areas.

The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "supplementary tactical squads, in coordination with armed forces and community security teams" to the area.

A coordinated search and rescue operation is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and believed flight corridors.
